Located roughly one-half mile across the Mexico-U.S. border in Tijuana, Hospital Infantil de las Californias was founded by Dr. Betty Jones and Dr. Gabriel Chong-King in 1994. Dr. Jones, fondly called Doctora Betty, had a vision for the hospital that has been fully realized. It is a model pediatric medical and education complex that offers patients over 20 medical specialties including short stay surgeries, a pharmacy, rehabilitation and physical therapy services, a Comprehensive Center for Children Psychology and Psychopedagogy, a Pediatric Dentistry Clinic, as well as education programs focused on nutrition and prevention.

 

The hospital has dozens of partnerships with pediatric hospitals and physicians in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The hospital sees more than 40,000 children under the age of 18 each year. Staffed by 160 professionals, half of whom are volunteers, the hospital operates with the philosophy created by Dr. Jones: No one is turned away who needs medical assistance.
